Becht Engineering BT, Inc., supported by ArchForensics, provided transition engineering support services to a condominium building located on Hudson River’s “gold coast”. A construction defect lawsuit was filed in 2013 by the Condominium Association supported by the multi-practice commercial law firm Becker & Poliakoff. The condominium is a six-story building, approximately 290,000 square feet with residential and commercial units. Becht’s inspections uncovered and defined problems in the buildings, including construction defects. The construction defects were the cause of water infiltration and structural stresses, both of which caused addition damage to occur in the building. Additionally, Design Errors and Omissions (E&O) were putting the occupants’ life safety at risk.
Becht’s involvement through the Condominium’s transition process and the resultant litigation involved over 2,400 hours of staff time, hundreds of invasive and visual inspection locations, hundreds of pages of reporting and documentation, and dozens of hours in preparation for and during trial in New Jersey Superior Court. Numerous expert witnesses testified at the jury trial which lasted 6 weeks.
Becht’s efforts as technical experts at the trial resulted in a jury award of $9 million plus to the community. Contact one of our professionals today at 800.772.7991 to assist with your legal support needs.
